Switching from a different carrier to Sprint

If your phone was not bought from Sprint store and the network used is not from Sprint, you can always switch your device to a Sprint network. There are ways to achieve it. Here are the steps:

  1. First, you need to make sure that your phone is unlocked so you can be able to switch to sprint. If you’re not sure about it, you can ask your current carrier.
  2. Second, in order to switch to Sprint, make sure that your phone is compatible with it. You can always check it online or in a Sprint store.
  3. Third, choose your desired Sprint plan.
  4. Fourth, order the SIM card from Sprint.
  5. And lastly, after you received your SIM card, activate it online.

Even though you have switched to a different network provider, you can still keep your current cellphone number along with the contacts, etc. Once your SIM is activated by the Sprint, you will be asked if you want to retain your current phone number. Sprint will be the one responsible for the cancellation of your account to your previous network provider. Just make sure you have not contacted your previous network provider regarding the cancellation of your account prior to your Sprint activation.

Switching from Sprint device to a different network provider

If your current network carrier is Sprint and you want to switch to another network provider, there are steps to consider. Here they are:

  • First, you need to make sure that you’re phone or device is unlocked. Contact Sprint if you are not sure. Your device will be capable of unlocking if you’ve fully paid off the device and is active on
  • Sprint Network for at least 50 days. Also, check if your device is capable of unlocking and you need to have a good account record standing with Sprint.
  • Contact Sprint and give your Sprint account number and password, the last four digits of your SSN, the IMEI or MEID number of your device and your cellphone number.
  • Contact the Sprint customer service care and ask for unlocking your device.
  • Check if your device is capable of unlocking. You can check it online or you can pay a call to Sprint.
  • Once your device is unlocked, go to the network carrier of your choice to switch your network and provide you the SIM card. You can choose to retain your phone number and contacts. Just let the network provider know your choice.
  • After you have received the SIM, you can now activate it online.

Although switching to other network carriers is possible, it is not easy to activate a Sprint device on a different network. Sprint, just like Verizon and US Cellular, is a CDMA carrier. Most of the network providers like AT&T and T-mobile are using GSM. GSM is mostly used globally compared to CDMA. You might want to switch to a carrier that has the same network. For example, from AT&T to T-mobile and from Sprint to Verizon.

Technically, switching from Sprint to Verizon is possible because both carriers are using CDMA. However, although Sprint and Verizon have the same CDMA network, not all Sprint’s devices are compatible with Verizon services. You will have to check first the IMEI or the International Mobile Equipment Identity.

Sprint phones can also use T-mobile and AT&T services despite different networks used by the carriers. Sprint is a CDMA carrier and the other two being GSM carriers. It is possible for a T-mobile and AT&T networks to be used by a Sprint phone, only if your device is an LTE-capable device or an iPhone.

Sprint Plan and Services

Sprint offers unlimited plans and are definitely affordable. There is only one unlimited plan so no need to choose from different choices. If you only need a prepaid plan, Sprint will offer you a prepaid plan with unlimited text and data or the prepaid plan with a data cap. Along with your phone plan, Sprint also provides an unlimited plan with 10GB of mobile hotspot data that you can use every month. Aside from these, HD video streaming is possible even without being connected to WI-Fi.

Since Sprint offers the cheapest plan compared to some internet service providers, competition between other carriers seems rough. Other network carriers include Verizon, Xfinity, and AT&T. Sprint excelled from other network service providers because of the cheaper plan price. Another advantage of choosing Sprint is it offers both 3G and 4G coverage. Also, Sprint recently cooperated with iPhone and currently, it is the only network service provider offering an unlimited data plan for new subscribers.

Another Sprint feature is that unlimited plans offered can also be used for international text and data. Though the speed will reduce into 2G, still free texting and data are possible in most countries. This is a great deal for travelers. In addition, Sprint offers free HULU limited commercial plans and a free Tidal music account. With the unlimited Premium plan, you’ll get the perks including HULU, Lookout, Tidal, Amazon Prime and an additional 50 GB LTE hotspot.

Pros of Choosing Sprint Network Services

Currently, Sprint is the third top network carriers next to Verizon and AT&T. All three of these aforementioned network providers have different services to offer. They all vary in price, data plans and internet access. So, why choose Sprint as your network provider? Here are some of the advantages of using Sprint:

Sprint offers three plan options to choose from. The price ranges from $50 to more than $109 monthly. Among the different network providers, Sprint offers the lowest price for their data plans. Their basic plan which costs $50 and below per month, comprises a 3G data transfer for 3 cents per KB data usage through internet access. Unlimited texting and calls of maximum 450 minutes every weekday and an evening unlimited calls and during weekends.

The second data plan offered by Sprint has a price of $80 and below per month. This plan provides you an unlimited data transfer and internet usage, unlimited texts, unlimited calls by evening and weekends and a 450 minutes call by weekdays. Visual voicemail and tethering hotspot are also included in this plan. The voicemail and hotspot can be used for 5GB. Additional usage will cost you $30 per month.

The unlimited Premium Sprint plan is costing $109 per month. This is the most abused plan choice of data users. This plan offers unlimited everything – unlimited internet access, unlimited texts, unlimited calls, and unlimited data transfer. The plan also includes voicemail and tethering hotspot with 50GB capping. This will also cost you an additional $30 per month.

Another advantage of using Sprint plans is that it offers both 3G and 4G coverage. This means that if you are residing in an area where 4G internet is available, you can have faster internet access and data transfer speed. If you are in an area where 4G is not available, automatically, you will be switched into 3G. However, switching into a 3G coverage will cost you a slightly slower rate in internet access and data transfer speed. Regardless of the slower rate, you can still have internet access, therefore, it is hassle-free.

Sprint also offers to price for unlimited data use when connected to a wireless network. This promo also includes unlimited texts with no extra charges when going over your data limit. Since Sprint is now coordinated with the iPhone, they offer an unlimited data plan for new iPhone subscribers. Affordable plans are also offered for iPhone users with no extra charges except for using the hotspot that will cost you an additional monthly bill.

Possible drawbacks in using Sprint

No network provider is perfect. Each carrier has several drawbacks or disadvantages. In this matter, Sprint also has some possible drawbacks in regard to internet access and cell phone services. Compare to other network service providers, Sprint falls behind Verizon and AT&T in regards to the network coverage and internet speed.

Another drawback is the internet connectivity depending on your location. If you are living in a metro or a suburban area then Sprint is good for you. But there are areas where internet access is low in speed rate and the coverage is poor. If you live in rural areas, there will be a spotty service.

In addition, one disadvantage of using Sprint is sometimes the wireless network displays limitations after excessive usage of the data and phone calls. This might be due to multitasking. Some Sprint users also complain about the additional pricing when using the hotspot tethering. The additional monthly payment of $30 is being imposed on the bill when you have reached the 5GB limit invoice mailing and hotspot. Some complain that it must be included in the unlimited premium plan without additional charges.

Another complaint from various customers is Sprint’s poor customer service care. Sprint is a franchising company so it varies from the different franchisees. There might be a little fault with regards to the customer care training of their customer service agent. But not all customers encountered a problem with the customer service, some other customers have a good interaction with their Customer service team.

A little recap about Sprint

Sprint operates a nationwide 3G/4G CDMA network. Sprint is one of the top network service providers which offers affordable pricing with their prepaid and postpaid plans. Compared to other network carriers, Sprint has the cheapest price. The unlimited data plans offered are a good deal, especially they offer free international text and data. But all in all, when it comes to their plan, Sprint offers a great deal with free services and no extra charges. Sprint will charge state taxes and fees aside from your monthly plan.

When it comes to switching your device into the Sprint network and vice versa, few things are needed to be considered and checked first. There is a possibility that some devices cannot be switched from Sprint to other network service providers. On the other hand, switching to sprint is made possible. In addition to this, there are several phones that are compatible with Sprint as mentioned above. You can always check online or visit their shop and bring your phone to them.

When it comes to speed and coverage, Sprint falls behind some big network provider companies like Verizon and AT&T. There are areas where internet access and data transfer is at a great rate. Before you plan to use Sprint, take into consideration that your location varies the network connectivity and coverage. When it comes to the hotspot, their unlimited plan includes a 10GB per month for tethering purposes. When you reached the limit, additional costs will be added to your bill. Overall, there is no perfect network service provider, but Sprint offers you a great deal with several perks.
